Revive Pottery – Samhita Pottery Project (2021)
Tisser Artisans Trust, in collaboration with Samhita Social Ventures and supported by MAVIM and Mandeshi Foundation, launched the Revive Pottery Project in 2021, targeting women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra.
The project aimed to build the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) and artisans by introducing computer-aided designing (CAD), digital fabrication tools, and market-aligned product development. Special emphasis was placed on enabling artisans to access E-commerce platforms, facilitating last-mile marketing and expanding their customer base beyond local markets.
Artisans engaged in traditional clay and pottery work received support to:
Enhance product quality and design innovation through skill-building.
Leverage digital tools and platforms for production and sales.
Access working capital to scale their microenterprises.
Improve livelihoods through sustainable income generation.
This initiative empowered over 300 women artisans, helping them transition from subsistence-level craft to a more formal, market-linked value chain. It also contributed to preserving the cultural heritage of pottery while aligning artisans with contemporary demand and digital commerce opportunities.
